The session provides an opportunity to explore the issues arising from both the US-UK Extradition Treaty and the European Arrest Warrant, and to discover whether any progress has been made in addressing the problems since the previous committee’s evidence session on the subject of the UK-US Treaty on 10 November 2009.

 Rt Hon Keith Vaz MP, Chair of the committee, said:

“The issue of the UK’s extradition arrangements, both with the US, the EU and other countries, remains prevalent following the Government’s announcement that a review is being conducted by Sir Scott Baker.

 

The fact that a decision still has not been made on the case of Gary McKinnon more than six months after the Home Secretary said that the issue would be looked at highlights the importance of this review and the Committee looks forward to considering this matter.”
