MPs question Environment Secretary about impact of Comprehensive Spending Review

The Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Committee will question the Secretary of State on the outcome of the Comprehensive Spending Review (CSR) and its implications for the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) and its associated public bodies.

The CSR left Defra facing deeper cuts than almost all other areas of government including the abolition or reform of over ninety 'non departmental public bodies' or 'quangoes', many of which provide valuable independent advice on vital technical and environmentally sensitive subjects.
The Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Committee will ask a wide range of questions in this session as part of its ongoing commitment to examine whether the department is making the right decisions in this difficult financial climate about a range of core priorities including;
- food production and environmental protection
- landscape and biodiversity conservation
- fisheries and marine management
- waste management
- animal health
