The Rt Hon Gordon Brown MP makes his first appearance before a select committee today since stepping down as Prime Minister in May. The International Development Committee will question him about international efforts to meet the Millennium Development Goals (MDG) and his ideas for nurturing growth in Africa.

The public hearing is part of the committee’s inquiry on the MDG Review Summit held in New York on 20-22 September 2010. The session provides an opportunity to assess outcomes from the Summit, including:

  • The UK Department for International Development’s role in delivering agreed strategies;
  • The role of the UN, the World Bank, the European Commission and Non Governmental Organisations (NGOs) in securing and delivering Summit outcomes, and how these organisations will be held accountable for achieving them;
  • The role of developing countries in securing and delivering Summit outcomes; and
  • Future planning for after the MDG deadline of 2015.

The session is open to the public and will take place in the Grimond Room, Portcullis House. It will start at 10.30am.
