Ministerial Statements

The Procedure Committee will hold an oral evidence session on its inquiry into Ministerial statements on Wednesday 10 November in Committee Room 8, Palace of Westminster.
The witnesses are:
3.15pm Rt Hon Sir George Young MP, Leader of the House
3.45pm Rt Hon Hilary Benn MP, Shadow Leader of the House
An uncorrected transcript of the evidence session will appear on the Committee’s website within about a week of the date of the session.
Background to the inquiry: On 20 July 2010, following the first debate ever scheduled by the Backbench Business Committee, the House invited the Procedure Committee to consider how the rules of the House could be changed or better used to ensure that Ministers made important announcements to Parliament first. The Committee was also asked to develop a protocol governing the release of information by Ministers. The Committee’s inquiry was announced on 13 September 2010.
