Two former Foreign Secretaries appearing before the Committee

Rt Hon David Miliband MP and Rt Hon Sir Malcolm Rifkind MP will give evidence together for the Committee's inquiry into The Role of the FCO in UK Government, on Wednesday 15 December 2010.

 

The Committee has announced its first two oral evidence sessions for the inquiry as follows:

Wednesday 8 December 2010, 2.30 pm, Wilson Room, Portcullis House

Witnesses:

  • Professor The Lord Hennessy of Nympsfield FBA, Attlee Professor of Contemporary British History, Queen Mary College, University of London

At 3.30 pm

  • Rt Hon the Lord Jay of Ewelme, GCMG, former Permanent Under-Secretary, Foreign and Commonwealth Office (2002-2006)


Wednesday 15 December 2010, 3.30 pm, Wilson Room, Portcullis House

Witnesses:

The sessions will allow the Committee to hear the views of the most recent former Foreign Secretaries from the two largest parties, the FCO’s former top civil servant, and a leading academic, on the FCO’s role, relationships and capabilities, in Whitehall and for UK Government overall. The implications for the FCO of the creation of the National Security Council are likely to be a key area of interest.
