The Coalition Government has announced its intention to replace all existing working age benefits with a single Universal Credit. A White Paper, Universal Credit: Welfare that Works, setting out the Government’s proposals, was published on 11 November (Cm 7957).

The Committee has decided to hold a short inquiry into the Government’s proposals.

Short submissions (no more than 3,000 words) are invited from interested organisations and individuals. The Committee is particularly interested in hearing views on the areas of the Government’s proposals set out in the White Paper which require further development.

The deadline for written evidence is 16 December 2010.
