House of Commons Speaker, John Bercow, announced on Wednesday 3 November that a ballot will take place to elect two Labour MPs to the Backbench Business Committee.

Ballot

Two Labour members of the Backbench Business Committee, Alison Seabeck and David Anderson, were recently promoted to serve on the opposition front bench. Their promotion has meant they are unable to continue to serve on the Backbench Business Committee.

A ballot will therefore take place to elect two Labour MPs to replace them.

The ballot will take place on Tuesday 9 November between 10am and 2pm in Committee Room 7.

Nominations from Labour MPs must be received in writing between 10am and 5pm on Monday 8 November.

The ballot will be counted using Single Transferable Vote.

Under Standing Order No.122D(3)(b) the Speaker has given notice that valid candidatures may only be received from Labour MPs.
