Inward investment in Wales

The Welsh Affairs Committee will be making a number of regional visits in connection with its inquiry into Inward Investment in Wales. The first of these will take place on Monday 6 December. The Committee’s visit will be hosted by GE Aviation Wales in Nantgarw, South Glamorgan. It will provide an opportunity for the Committee to meet representatives of foreign-owned businesses in South Wales.

Committee Chair David T. C. Davies said: “Wales, like all of the UK is currently facing significant economic challenges. Not least of these challenges is how it can maximise inward investment, thereby creating employment and prosperity. The purpose of our inquiry is to find out why this has happened, what should be done so that Wales becomes a more attractive destination for foreign companies and how the conditions can be created for companies to want to remain. The Committee felt it was vital to get out of Westminster during the course of this inquiry and are looking forward to the first of a number of visits to garner the experience of inward investors in Wales on the ground. We look forward to visiting North Wales in 2011 to examine the experiences of businesses there.” There will be an opportunity for press to interview the Committee about the inquiry from 10.30 am at GE Aviation Wales.
