The House of Lords EU Sub Committee for Foreign Affairs, Defence and Development Policy questioned Lord Astor of Hever, Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for the Ministry of Defence on Thursday 18 November.

The evidence session concentrated on issues such as the Government’s policy on European defence collaboration and what prospects there are for stronger defence cooperation between the UK and other European nations, particularly given recent developments in Franco-British defence cooperation.
The Committee asked Lord Astor about Europe’s military capabilities, the activities and initiatives of the European Defence Agency, and what progress is being made to address EU capability shortfalls that continue to be identified in reviews.
