Transport Committee visits Hull

As part of their ongoing inquiry into priorities for transport spending in order to support the economy, both nationally and in the regions, the Transport Committee takes oral evidence in public today from local organisations in Hull.
The last major study (by Sir Rod Eddington in 2006) recommended that transport investment should focus on measures to curb congestion in urban areas, on key inter-urban corridors and international gateways (major ports and airports).
Hull is a city with a major port, also served by important rail and road links, including the Humber Bridge (a piece of key transport infrastructure built to assist regional economic development).
The committee will be asking whether the priorities identified by Eddington remain those most likely to deliver future growth to this region.
MPs are also keen to learn how major transport schemes will be promoted in the absence of regional spatial planning strategies.
The meeting will take place at 11am in Hull Maritime Museum.
