PASC to hear from Unions and Academics on Quangos cull

MPs on the Public Administration Select Committee will quiz Union leaders and academics on the implications of the Government’s cuts to arms-length bodies on Tuesday 9 November in Committee Room 18 at the House of Commons

This is the second evidence session in the Committee’s inquiry into the Government’s plans to reform public bodies. It will provide the Committee with the opportunity to hear from the Unions about their experiences and concerns over the review process. The Committee will also be able to question academics about the Government’s recent decisions and the possibilities for a wider reform of public bodies.

Particular issues that may arise include:

  •  how well the Government’s review of public bodies has been 
     managed;
  •  whether the changes will deliver any improvements in accountability;
     how far the reforms will affect job losses and the wider economy;
  •  whether the civil service has the skills to manage this major 
     organisational change; and
  •  the potential for wider reforms and effective reviews in future.

  • Sir Ian Magee CB, Institute for Government, Professor Matthew Flinders, University of Sheffield and Professor Colin Talbot, Manchester Business School
