The Public Administration Select Committee will question Cabinet Office Minister Francis Maude MP about Government plans to cut the number of Quangos on Wednesday 3 November at 9.30am in Committee Room 15

 Three of the arms length bodies which will be affected by the proposals will also appear before the Committee.

This is the first evidence session in the Committee’s inquiry into the Government’s plans to reform public bodies - Shrinking the Quango State.  The Committee will hear from the Minister about how the decisions were arrived at and how they will now be taken forward.

Witnesses

At 9.30 am

  • Frances Done, Chair, Youth Justice Board; Rona Chester, Chief Operating Officer, Sport England; Nick Gargan, Acting Chief Executive, National Policing Improvement Agency

At 10.15 am

  • Rt Hon Francis Maude, Minister for the Cabinet Office

Particular issues that may arise include:

  • how the criteria for reform set by the Government were applied in  practice;
  • the nature and level of consultation which took place before decisions were announced;
  • what savings are likely to flow from the abolition or reform of these bodies;
  • whether accountability will be improved as a result of these changes; and
  • how will change be managed.
