The Environmental Audit Committee kicks-off its inquiry into Government plans for a Green Investment Bank today with a public hearing in the Thatcher Room at Portcullis House.

The MPs will be asking business groups, trade bodies and campaigners how the Bank should be set up – and what funding and governance structures need to be put in place to ensure it is effective and accountable.

Witnesses

At 2.30 pm

  • Dr Gordon Edge, Director of Policy, RenewableUK;
  • Philip Wolfe, Director, Aldersgate Group; and
  • Chris Hewett, Associate, Green Alliance

At 3.30 pm approximately

  • James Wilde, Director of Insights, Carbon Trust;
  • Sir Rob Margetts, Chairman, Energy Technologies Institute; and
  • Stuart Cook, Senior Partner, Smarter Grids and Governance, Ofgem (Low Carbon Network Fund)

The MPs will be asking questions on:

  • The appropriate level of capitalisation – and whether the £1 billion pledged by the Government in the Spending Review is adequate.
  • Green Bonds and Green ISAs
  • The new Bank’s ability to leverage hundreds of billions of pounds in investment needed to kick start low-carbon growth.
