The House of Lords Communications Committee questioned experts from the media industry in the first evidence session of its inquiry into the regulation of television advertising on Tuesday 19 October

The Committee are considering regulation of the television advertising industry, and asked the witnesses about subjects including factors influencing trends in advertising, expectations of future advertising revenues, and the rise of online advertising.

The Committee took evidence at 3.30 pm on Tuesday 19 October in Committee Room 2 from:

  • Ms Tess Alps, CEO, Thinkbox
  • Mr Ben Fenton, Media Correspondent, Financial Times
  • Mr Guy Phillipson, Chief Executive, Internet Advertising Bureau
  • Mr Toby Syfret, Media Analyst, Enders Analysis

The airtime trading system and the rules on the scheduling of television advertising were also be subjects for discussion, as well as ITV’s Contract Rights Renewal undertakings.
