Lords takes more views on plans for fixed-term parliaments

Professor Dawn Oliver and Professor Anthony Bradley will give evidence to the House of Lords Constitution Committee inquiry into the Government’s proposals to introduce fixed-term parliaments on Wednesday 6 October.

The evidence session will start at 11am in Committee Room 2A of the House of Lords.

Professor Dawn Oliver is Professor of Constitutional Law at the University College London and Professor Anthony Bradley is visiting research fellow at Oxford University’s Institute of European and Comparative Law.

The Committee will ask questions on the details of the proposals put forward by the Government, including:

  • the suggestion that the current parliamentary session should be extended to 2012
  • the mechanisms proposed for allowing an early dissolution of Parliament
  • what might occur under the proposed system if no viable government could be formed following a general election.

The Committee will hear evidence on this and other constitutional issues from Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg MP on Wednesday 13 October.
