New Northern Ireland Secretary to give evidence to MPs

The Northern Ireland Affairs Committee will take evidence from Owen Paterson MP, Secretary of State for Northern Ireland, and officials from the Northern Ireland Office on Wednesday 8 September

The committee's questions will focus on a range of issues, including the security situation in Northern Ireland, the Bloody Sunday inquiry, dealing with the legacy of the Troubles, and a Bill of Rights for Northern Ireland.

Northern Ireland Office

The Northern Ireland Office is responsible for overseeing the Northern Ireland devolution settlement and representing Northern Ireland interests at UK government level and UK government interests in Northern Ireland. The department also has responsibility for national security in respect of Northern Ireland as well as human rights, electoral law and legacy issues (including current ongoing public inquiries).
