The Home Affairs Select Committee has been recalled for an emergency private meeting on Thursday to consider terms of reference for an inquiry into the recent riots

Rt. Hon Keith Vaz MP, Chairman of the Committee said:

“I and members of the Committee are very concerned about these serious events. It is a tragedy to see that our capital city and other urban centres are being scarred in this way. It is important that we look urgently at the causes and policing of what has happened and establish whether the police require additional resources and powers to tackle riots of this scale. We want to place on record our appreciation of the tireless efforts of individual police officers.

The Committee has previously looked into policing of the G20 protests and is keen to see if its previous recommendations have been implemented”.
