Frau Heide Jekel from the German Ministry for the Environment, will be giving evidence via video link to the Lords Agriculture, Environment and Fisheries EU Sub-Committee on Wednesday 7 December, as part of their inquiry into EU freshwater policy

Frau Jekel will inform the Committee about Germany’s experience with implementation of EU water legislation, including the Water Framework Directive (WFD). The inquiry is being held in order to influence proposals to shape future EU freshwater policy, with the WFD at its heart.

The Committee will quiz Frau Jekel on issues such as:

  • the German structures for water resource management, if there have been any significant changes in the last 10 years and if any more are expected;
  • the positive and negative aspects of the WFD; and
  • how well German consumers understand water resource management problems and who should be responsible for improving their understanding.

The evidence session will take place on Wednesday 7 December at 10.30am in Committee Room 2 of the House of Lords.
