The Public Administration Select Committee (PASC) publishes its report on the appointment of the next Chair of the UK Statistics Authority. This follows the pre-appointment hearing it held with the Government’s preferred candidate, Andrew Dilnot CBE, on 6 December.

The Committee recommends that Andrew Dilnot be appointed to the post. A motion to approve the appointment is expected to be debated in the House in the week of 12 December.

Bernard Jenkin MP, Chair of PASC, said

"The Committee was entirely satisfied that Andrew Dilnot is the right person to fulfil the role of Chair of UKSA. He gave a brilliant performance in front of the committee at the pre-appointment hearing.  He has championed the cause of UKSA since inception. He is one of the best known advocates of statistics in the country.  We were impressed by the plans for the role which he set out in his pre-appointment hearing, and by his enthusiasm for better communication of statistical issues. Should the House agree to his appointment as Chair, we look forward to working with him as he builds on the achievements of the Authority’s first Chair, Sir Michael Scholar. I am particularly grateful to Sir Michael, who extended his term of office while we extended the search for the right successor."
