Hugh Robertson, Minister for Sport and the Olympics, gave evidence to the House of Lords Social Policies and Consumer Protection Committee on Thursday 10 February as part of its inquiry into Grassroots Sport and the EU.

The inquiry is investigating the state of community sport and will make recommendations on EU action.  It will look at how Member States within the EU can better work together, ease existing burdens, promote participation and maximise the contribution grassroots sport can make to society, especially amongst unrepresented groups.

The Minister was asked questions in relation to:

  • How sport can best be mainstreamed across policy areas and taken into account when legislation is produced
  • Sustainable funding of grassroots sports
  • How the EU should best work with Member States and how the Sports Programme should function

The evidence session took place on Thursday 10 February in Committee Room 2 of the House of Lords.
