Treasury Sub-Committee hear from Unions

The Treasury sub-Committee has begun its inquiry into the Administration and Effectiveness of Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs (HMRC)
On Wednesday 19 January the Committee took evidence from;
- Simon Boniface, Deputy Group Secretary, Revenue and Customs Group, Public and Commercial Services Union
- Peter Lockhart, National Officer, Revenue and Customs Group, Public and Commercial Services Union
- Graham Black, President, and Terry Cook, former President, Association of Revenue and Customs (ARC)
Background
The operation of HMRC has come under close scrutiny as a result of the most recent round of PAYE reconciliations. The Department is subject to a significant efficiency programme and must make further savings as a result of the Comprehensive Spending Review.
The sub-committee’s inquiry builds on its predecessor’s work, which identified areas of concern in relation to the impact of the efficiency programme on HMRC’s performance, staff morale within the organisation and its performance on issues such as the payment of tax credits.
