Oral Evidence Session

The Role of the Chief Scientific Advisor
Tuesday 05 July 2011 at 12.30 pm
Committee Room 8

Purpose of session:

This is a one-off evidence session which will allow the Committee to examine the work of the Chief Scientific Advisor to the Home Office. The session will concentrate on the role of the Chief Scientific Advisor, his influence on the policy-making process and the level of support for science and innovation within the Home Office. The Science Secretariat in the Home Office is also responsible for the Forensic Science Regulator and so this session offers a chance to question a Home Office official regarding the implications of the ‘wind-down’ of the Forensic Science Service.

Committee Chair Rt hon Keith Vaz MP said:

“I look forward to hearing about the progress Professor Bernard Silverman has made since being appointed, and how his role has contributed to the shaping of Home Office policy.”

Witnesses:

At 12.30 pm
• Professor Bernard Silverman, Chief Scientific Advisor to the Home Office
