Does UK aid make the right difference?

The UK's aid agenda is under scrutiny today as the Lords Economic Affairs Committee takes evidence for its inquiry into the economics of development aid at 3.35pm in Committee Room 1, Palace of Westminster.

Witnesses
The Committee will question the following witnesses at 3.35pm:
- Sir Edward Clay, former High Commissioner to Kenya
- Sir Tim Lankester, formerly permanent secretary of the ODA (now DFID) and World Bank and Treasury official
- Lord Jay of Ewelme, former permanent secretary to the Foreign & Commonwealth Office
The committee will ask about the UK's aid programme and how it relates to British foreign policy, how the UK can ensure that aid is used in the best way by recipient countries and reaches those in real need, and how the UK evaluates the impact of its aid programmes.
Witnesses will also be questioned about the administration of aid projects by the Department for International Development (DFID) and social angles of aid in recipient countries such as corruption and accountability.
