Judicial appointments in the dock: Judges to give evidence

In evidence for its inquiry into the judicial appointments process, the Lords Constitution Committee will hear from serving members of the judiciary on Wednesday 13 July and Wednesday 20 July.
The Committee will ask for the judges’ assessment of the current appointments system and how it can be improved.

They will also cover issues including:
- whether parliamentarians and Parliament should play a role in the appointments process, and whether the judiciary’s current role is appropriate;
- the devolved administrations’ involvement in appointments to the Supreme Court;
- what constitutional reasons there are for preferring a diverse judiciary;
- the judges’ views on a “career judiciary”.
