PASC to hear from faith leaders and humanists on Big Society

This will be the Committee’s fourth evidence session of its Big Society Inquiry and will focus on the role of faith groups in the Big Society. The Committee will hear from Lord Jonathan Sacks, the Chief Rabbi, the Anglican Bishop of Leicester, Tim Stevens and the Catholic Bishops Conference. Evidence will also be taken from the British Humanist Association who have warned that unless the Big Society is a ‘secular’ initiative it “may serve to divide rather than to unite society”
Particular issues that may arise include:
- Whether the Big Society has its roots in religious traditions; and
- the criticism of the Big Society by some prominent figures from faith communities.
