Lords to debate science funding

Members of the House of Lords will this evening debate the Government’s approach to the funding of science research. In a debate starting at 7pm, Peers with distinguished backgrounds in science will discuss issues such as the place of research at a time of financial austerity, the role of the Government Chief Scientific Adviser and issues of resource verses policy.  

The debate follows the report, Setting priorities for publicly funded research from the House of Lords Science and Technology Committee, which stressed the importance of scientific research in underpinning Government policy and in promoting national prosperity. Lord Sutherland of Houndwood, who chaired the inquiry into research funding, will open the debate, which will also include contributions from:
