MPs take evidence on the implications of Turkey's accession to the EU

This is the second session of the Committee’s inquiry and will explore the likely impact of Turkish accession to the EU on legal migration flows, the implications of Turkish accession for border security and organised crime in the EU, as well as current cooperation on organised crime and border security between Turkey and EU Member States.

Committee Chairman, Rt Hon Keith Vaz MP, said:

“Turkey’s admission to the EU will make it the second largest Member State, with a population of over 70 million. It is essential that all of the lessons of previous enlargements are learnt before and not after it becomes a member. The Committee looks forward to examining in detail the issues that are of concern to the public, including migration, people trafficking and drugs trafficking. We are particularly concerned about reports of illegal immigration flooding over the Greek-Turkish border.”
