Lords Communications Committee hears evidence on BBC Trust

The House of Lords Communications Committee received further contributions to its inquiry into the governance and regulation of the BBC, when it heard evidence in 3 separate meetings.

  • At 3.15 pm, Tessa Jowell, former Secretary of State at the Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) was questioned by the Committee about the creation of the BBC Trust and the role of the Chairman of the Trust.
  • At 3.45 pm, Jon Zeff, a Director of Media at the DCMS talked to the Committee about issues of governance and regulation of the BBC and how the Trust works in practice.
  • Lastly, at 4.15 pm, the Committee took evidence from Andrew Harrison, Chief Executive Officer at RadioCentre, and Andrew Barron, Chief Operating Officer at Virgin Media. Both organisations have criticised the Trust’s procedures in the past and the Committee asked about such criticisms and the duties of the Trust.

All 3 evidence sessions took place on Tuesday 22 March in Committee Room 2 of the House of Lords.
