MPs want to know what’s happening to your local bus network

The Transport Committee is currently looking into the impact of the Spending Review on bus services outside London, for example where operators rely on public subsidy to run services (e.g. during off peak periods, at night, on weekends or to serve sparsely populated communities).
Louise Ellman MP, Chair of the Committee says:
"My committee wants to hear about the impact of proposed changes to bus services in local communities around the country. Where significant changes have been proposed or implemented, we want to find out how local communities are being consulted.
It is very important that we hear the views of local people and businesses that rely on bus services, particularly in those parts of the country where there look to be significant changes in bus provision."
The Committee is keen to gather evidence directly from bus users (or local stakeholders) about how recent changes to funding for bus provision are affecting – or are likely to affect - local bus services (including community transport schemes).
As part of this work the Committee is looking at the cost impacts of implementing free travel for elderly and disabled people (under the Concessionary Bus Travel Act 2007).
Likewise, MPs are keen to learn more about how passengers’ views are being taken into account when planning changes to bus services.
