From 27 February to 2 March, a delegation of 7 MPs from the House of Commons Home Affairs Select Committee visited Turkey. The group, led by Committee Chairman Right Honourable Keith Vaz, came to see at first hand the challenges Turkey faces in tackling illegal drugs and migration.

The delegation held meetings with senior representatives of the Turkish Ministry of Interior and Turkish National Police in Ankara and Istanbul, met the EU and Interior Affairs Commissions in the Turkish Parliament and toured the areas bordering Greece in Edirne Province.

The delegation was impressed with the serious efforts being taken by Turkey to stop the illegal flow of drugs and people towards the EU. During his meeting with the Governor of Edirne Province, Mr Vaz expressed his gratitude for these measures and reinforced the UK's strong support for Turkey's bid for EU accession.
