Committee to hold third evidence session into the New Landscape of Policing

Purpose of session:

This is the Committee’s third evidence session for its inquiry into the New Landscape of Policing.  It will enable the Committee to examine what progress the Government has made so far in driving more effective procurement in the police service and what further steps it should take.  There will also be a chance to examine central Government procurement more generally in the session with Bill Crothers, Ian Forster and Nigel Smith.

Rt. Hon Keith Vaz MP, Committee Chair, said:

“Ministers have said millions can be saved from improving procurement. We need to identify where and how these savings can be made. Buying 43 different types of pens is unacceptable if we want a modern police force in the 21st Century. Whitehall has a duty to lead the way as far as local police forces are concerned as well as recognising that sometimes the front line officers know better than their managers about how to save money.”
