Tuesday 24 May 2011 at 11.00 a.m. in Committee Room 16

Purpose of session:

This is the Committee’s fourth evidence session for its inquiry into the New Landscape of Policing and it will focus on the allocation of functions in the new landscape.  It is an opportunity to explore the role of HM Inspectorate of Constabulary both in relation to new bodies such as the National Crime Agency and in terms of the inspection regime that will apply to police force.  The session with Nick Gargan will enable the Committee to explore in more detail where the functions that the NPIA currently performs will sit in the new landscape and the proposed timetable and arrangements for the transfer of these functions.

Witnesses:
At 11.00 a.m.

Sir Denis O’Connor, Her Majesty's Inspectorate of Constabulary

At 11.30 a.m.
• Nick Gargan, National Policing Improvement Agency

Committee Chair Rt. Hon Keith Vaz MP said:

“The current policing landscape includes several organisations with uncertain futures. 9 months after the Government first announced its changes to policing we need to know what will be in the new landscape and in what form. The Committee will be hearing from two organisations, NPIA and HMIC, asking them what they think will happen to their functions and how they will fit into the new landscape”
