The FCO's human rights work 2010-11

This is the second and final planned evidence session for the Committee’s inquiry into The FCO’s human rights work 2010-11. The Committee took evidence previously from Amnesty International UK and Human Rights Watch. The Committee will question the Minister about the FCO’s human rights work since the change of Government, on the basis especially of the department’s latest annual human rights report (published at the end of March).
The session will be held on Monday 23 May 2011 at 5.05 pm in the Wilson Room, Portcullis House.

- Mr Jeremy Browne MP, Minister of State with responsibility for human rights, Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO), accompanied by FCO officials
Among other issues, the Committee is likely to question the Minister on the relationship between the FCO’s human rights work and the emphasis which the Government is placing on the promotion of UK economic and commercial interests in UK foreign policy. The Committee is also likely to raise the FCO’s work at relevant international institutions and in particular countries and regions.
The Committee expects to publish a Report arising from its inquiry before the Summer Recess.
