The Public Administration Committee will take evidence from the financial sector on Tuesday 3 May on philanthropy and funding of the voluntary sector.

This will be the Committee’s third evidence session on philanthropy and funding of the voluntary sector. They will be hearing from representatives of the banking and hedge fund industry and commentators on the subject.

The Committee will consider the current state of philanthropy and corporate social responsibility in the City and the wider financial sector. Particular issues that may arise include:

  • The culture of philanthropy in the UK;
  • the role of the big four banks in supporting the voluntary sector through the Big Society Bank; and
  • proposed measures to increase charitable giving by the wealthier section of society.
