Lord Patten of Barnes and regulator Ofcom questioned

Lord Patten of Barnes (pictured), the new Chairman of the BBC Trust, gave evidence to the House of Lords Communications Committee on Tuesday 10 May as part of the Committee’s inquiry into the BBC Trust. Communications industry regulator Ofcom also appeared before the Committee.

At 3.30 pm, Colette Bowe, Chairman of Ofcom, and Ed Richards, Ofcom’s Chief Executive, were questioned by the Committee about the relationship between Ofcom and the BBC Trust and the issue of overlapping jurisdiction of content regulation, and how this works in practice.
At 4.30 pm, Lord Patten of Barnes faced questions on the role of the BBC Trust, the future of the BBC World Service and the licence fee settlement.
The inquiry into the governance and regulation of the BBC comes five years since the establishment of the BBC Trust and follows the 2005 House of Lords' Review of the BBC Charter.
