Policing Large Scale Disorder

Purpose of session:

This is an opportunity for the Committee to question Her Majesty’s Chief Inspector of Constabulary about the review the Inspectorate is conducting into public order policing. The Committee, will also have the opportunity to question Louise Casey, who was appointed by the Prime Minister, following the riots, to help the 120,000 most troubled families in the UK, and for the Committee to hear from the Riots and Communities and Victims Panel about the work that is has been doing in response to the riots.

Committee Chair Rt Hon Keith Vaz MP said:

“The review into public order policing being carried out by Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary is a key element of the response to the August riots, and this is an important opportunity to hear from Sir Denis O’Connor about the issues that are being taken into account. 

 

We also have the chance to learn about the work of the Riots Communities and Victims Panel, and the Troubled Families Team as they continue their investigations into the causes of the disorder and preventative measures needed to prevent these disturbances occurring in the future.”
