Financial Transaction Tax
Lords Committee takes evidence on Financial Transaction Tax
22 November 2011
On 22 November the committee held the first oral evidence session of its new inquiry, Towards a Financial Transaction Tax?
- Parliament TV: Financial Transaction Tax
- Inquiry: Towards a Financial Transaction Tax?
- EU Sub Committee on Economic and Financial Affairs, and International Trade
The purpose of the inquiry is to investigate the rationale behind the introduction of a financial sector tax, and will consider the potential risks, benefits and shortcomings of a Financial Transaction Tax (FTT) and its significance for the City of London. It will also assess whether an FTT could plausibly be implemented at an EU level, or whether it will only work effectively if implemented globally.
On 22 November the Committee will heard from:
- Richard Woolhouse, Head of Tax and Fiscal Policy, CBI
- Owen Tudor, Head of European Union and International Relation, TUC
- Duncan Weldon, Senior Policy Officer, TUC
Further evidence sessions are planned.
