PASC to question Francis Maude

This will be the Committee’s final evidence session of its Inquiry into the role of the Head of the Civil Service. The Committee will take evidence from the Minister for the Cabinet Office, the Rt Hon Francis Maude MP. The Committee will question the Minister on the proposals to split the roles of Head of the Civil Service, Cabinet Secretary and Permanent Secretary, Cabinet Office into three separate posts; and seek further details as to how the new structure will work in practice.

Particular issues to be explored may include:

  • The impact of the proposals on the Civil Service
  • How the Permanent Secretary, Cabinet Office and the Head of the Civil Service will work together
  • Whether the new structure will help in reforming Whitehall

The Committee will also take evidence on the work of the Cabinet Office and the Minister’s recent proposals to reform government procurement procedure.
