The Backbench Business Committee is responsible for scheduling debates on 35 days during the current session, at least 27 of which will be debates in the main Chamber of the House of Commons, with the remainder to be taken in Westminster Hall.

The Committee has determined that the following business will take place in backbench time:

Tuesday 8 November in the Chamber (half day)

Publication of a Select Committee Report: Mrs Louise Ellman, on behalf of the Transport Select Committee (for approximately 20 minutes)

This motion enables the Chair of a select committee to present a report on the day of publication. The Chair will speak for approximately 20 minutes, taking interventions from Members on issues relating to the report.

Followed by a Motion relating to the cost of motor insurance (Member in charge: Mrs Louise Ellman, on behalf of the Transport Select Committee).

The Committee was told that this is a topic of major public interest on which the Transport Committee has published a recent Report and recommendations.

Tuesday 15 November in the Chamber (full day)

Motion relating to fisheries (Member in charge: Mr Frank Doran) (for up to three hours).

There was cross-party support for a debate on fisheries to take place before the meeting of the EU Council of Fisheries Ministers in December.

Followed by a Motion relating to fuel prices (Member in charge: Robert Halfon) (for approximately three hours).

The Committee heard that many backbench Members wished to debate the issue of fuel prices, which has also been the subject of an e-petition.
