Purpose of the session

Following on from sessions with teachers and trainers, the Committee moves the focus of its inquiry to the wider community perspective, and the perspective of researchers. In the first panel, representatives of those who engage regularly with teachers—such as parents and school governors—will offer their views on the qualities required in an outstanding teachers, and they ways in which Government policy might change the teacher training and supply landscape.

In the second half of the session, the Committee will hear from those who have studied issues pertinent to the inquiry—including leading researchers from universities, and the Chairman of The Sutton Trust, which aims to promote social mobility through education.
