Purpose of the session

For the first formal session of its inquiry into teacher recruitment, retention and training, the Committee will consider the trainers’ perspective. Evidence will be taken from the Training and Development Agency, the national body responsible for the training and development of the school workforce. In the second panel, the Committee will hear from a range of teacher trainers, including representatives of universities, school-based training, and the TeachFirst programme. The session will explore current provision for training and developing outstanding teachers, and examine commonly cited reasons for entering and leaving the profession.
