The House debated the Agriculture, Fisheries and Environment (Sub-Committee D) report on "Subsidiarity Assessment: distribution of food products to deprived persons" on Monday, 28 November in the House of Lords Chamber.

The EU Select Committee and its Sub-Committee on Agriculture, Fisheries and Environment have considered the proposal to amend the EU-wide scheme for distributing food to poor people and concluded that the proposal does not comply with the principle of subsidiarity (that legislation should be made at EU level only when it will be more effective than legislation at national level).

The Committee previously considered a similar proposal and submitted a Reasoned Opinion to the European institutions:

EU Sub-committee D: Reasoned opinion on 'The distribution of food to deprived persons'.
