The House of Lords EU Economic and Financial Affairs Sub-Committee questioned its final witness as part of its inquiry on the Euro Area Crisis on Tuesday 8 November.

Witness

  • Professor Iain Begg

Professor Iain Begg, an expert on EU economic policy issues from the European Institute of the London School of Economics, will answer questions from the committee about the future of the Euro area, including divisions and relations between euro and non euro area countries, and whether closer fiscal integration, as suggested by the Chancellor of the Exchequer, could be the solution to the euro area's problems.

Other areas of questioning will included:

  • Recent political turbulence in Greece
  • The outcome of the 4 November G-20 summit and the 26 October EU summit
  • The leadership provided by President Sarkozy and Chancellor Merkel to the euro area
  • Whether recapitalisation of European banks could deepen the sovereign debt crisis

The meeting will took place on Tuesday 8 November at 10.30am in Committee Room 3 of the House of Lords.
