Public Administration Select Committee questions Sir Gus O'Donnell

This will be the Public Administration Select Committee's fourth evidence session of its inquiry into the role of the Head of the Civil Service. The committee will take evidence from the retiring Head of the Civil Service and Cabinet Secretary, Sir Gus O'Donnell.

The committee will question Sir Gus on the proposals to split his current role into three separate posts of Head of the Civil Service, Cabinet Secretary and Permanent Secretary, Cabinet Office; and seek further details as to how the new structure will work in practice.
Issues
Particular issues to be explored may include:
- Why the decision has been taken to divide the role currently held by Sir Gus
- The time commitment required to lead the Civil Service
- The impact of the proposals on Civil Service reform programmes
In their final session with Sir Gus before his retirement at the end of the year, the committee will also take evidence on the response of the Civil Service to the issues arising from Mr Adam Werritty's access to the former Secretary of State for Defence.
