Lords to question former Chief Inspector of Prisons on European Drugs Strategy

The Committee are looking at the EU’s drug strategy ahead of the implementation of a new strategy for 2013-2020. The evidence session follows recent high profile calls for a rethink on drug strategy from organisations such as the UN Office on Drugs and Crime and the former Head of MI5, Baroness Manningham-Buller.

The evidence session will see the Committee question the witnesses on issues such as:

• whether the 2005-2012 EU Drug Strategy has worked and whether the policy is evidence based
• why there has been no overall reduction in either supply or demand across the Member States over this time
• if serious consideration should be given to decriminalisation of some or all drugs across the EU as part of the 2012-2020 drugs strategy
