School of Oriental and African Studies to give evidence to Lords inquiry

Laurence Smith, Senior Lecturer and Head of the Centre for Development, Environment and Policy for the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), University of London, will appear before the House of Lords Agriculture, Fisheries and Environment EU Sub-Committee on Wednesday 26 October. It will be the first evidence session of the Committee’s inquiry into EU freshwater policy.

The Committee will question Mr. Smith on issues including:
- how water quality varies between different EU Member States;
- whether the impact of climate change on water resources will vary significantly across the EU
- what needs to be done to the CAP to ensure it properly supports EU freshwater policy; and
- what changes are needed to the EU’s Water Framework Directive to ensure effective protection of water resources over the years ahead.
