Senior Civil Service changes and influence at top of Government

The Public Administration Select Committee has launched an inquiry into the role of the Head of the Civil Service. The inquiry will cover the implications for the Civil Service of the recent announcement on the reorganisation of the highest level of Civil Service management following the retirement of Sir Gus O’Donnell on 31 December 2011.

During this inquiry, the committee will examine the response of the Civil Service to the issues arising from Mr Adam Werritty's access to the former Secretary of State for Defence.
The committee will shortly be announcing details of an inquiry into the Government’s progress on the establishment of a statutory register of lobbyists, following up on the recommendations of the Committee in the last Parliament.
As part of a programme of inquiries to examine influence in the highest reaches of Government, the committee also proposes to undertake inquiries into the role of special advisers and the operation of the Business Appointment Rules. Details of these inquiries will be announced in due course.
Submissions are invited by Friday 4 November.
