Top UK judges give evidence on judicial appointments process

Lord Judge, the Lord Chief Justice, and Lord Phillips of Worth Matravers, President of the Supreme Court, will give evidence to the Lords Constitution Committee for its inquiry into the judicial appointments process on Wednesday 19 October.
The committee will ask how the current system for appointing judges, including Supreme Court Justices, can be improved.

The evidence session is likely to cover issues such as:
- the relationship between the judiciary, executive and Parliament, and how it has been affected by recent changes
- whether Parliament should play a role in the appointments process, for example whether a parliamentary committee should question candidates for senior judicial posts before the Lord Chancellor confirms their appointments
- the role of the Judicial Appointments Commission and whether it needs to change;
- the process for appointing Supreme Court Justices
- how to achieve a more diverse judiciary
- whether the UK needs a "career judiciary"
