A Joint Committee of MPs and Peers took evidence on the draft Financial Services Bill for the first time, questioning Gillian Tett and Charles Dumas followed by former Permanent Secretary to the Treasury, Lord Burns.

At 9.45am, the Committee asked Gillian Tett, US Managing Editor to the Financial Times and author of Fools Gold, and Charles Dumas, Chairman of Lombard Street Research, about financial crises and their impact on countries around the world, coordination between international institutions and how financial stability might be best achieved through regulation.

Immediately following, at 10.45, Lord Burns was questioned about regulatory structures, measures that might prevent further financial crisis, and the operation of the UK within the new European regulatory regime.
