Second evidence session on Public Appointments

This is the Committee’s second evidence session on Public Appointments following the session with the Commissioner for Public Appointments, Sir David Normington, on 13 July 2011. It was held on Tuesday 6 September 2011 in the Committee Room 16, in the Palace of Westminster

Sir David has been reviewing the current system for regulating public appointments and has published a consultation document. The Committee will hear from experts in both the private and public sector on how the process for public appointments is working currently and on how it can be improved in the future.

Particular issues to be explored may include:

  • The relevance of the Prime Minister’s salary as a benchmark for the salaries of senior posts;
  • the use of executive recruitment agencies and whether their use leads to a more diverse range of candidates; and
  • the proposals to simplify the Code of Practice for public appointments and make the regulatory process more “light touch”.
